About Us

Our values

The MedNex community is built on simple principles: open doors, shared learning, honest science and recognition for real work. These values guide how we mentor, design projects and publish together.

  • Accessibility & equity

Open routes into meaningful research, regardless of location, connections or prior experience.

  • Mentorship & growth

Personal guidance, practical training and clear pathways from first steps to authorship.

  • Collaboration & community

Multi‑center teams, transparent roles and shared credit for shared work.

Our History

MedNex was founded on a simple but powerful belief: talent in medicine is universal, but opportunity is not. Our goal is to bridge that gap by combining high-quality mentorship with meaningful opportunities. What started as a small initiative between peers has grown into a global network of over 6,000 students and doctors across more than 75 countries. Through this community, we have led multicenter national studies, international collaborations, and high-impact systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Alongside this, we have supported hundreds of mentees in taking their first steps into academia, with many achieving first-time authorship in peer-reviewed journals. From day one, MedNex has been built on the idea that mentorship and opportunities should not exist in isolation. By integrating the two, we have created an environment where individuals are not only given opportunities, but are guided, supported, and empowered to make the most of them

Our Mission

At MedNex, our mission is to make mentorship, research, and opportunity accessible to every aspiring clinician, regardless of background, experience, connections or privilege. We believe that progress in medicine depends not only on innovation, but on people, and people thrive when they are supported. That is why MedNex is built as a mentorship-driven ecosystem, where individuals at every stage of their journey, from pre-medical students to residents, can access guidance and develop their skill set. By combining structured mentorship with collaborative opportunities, we aim to create a level playing field where curiosity and effort are rewarded.

Our Team

MedNex was founded by Dr. Sammy Arab, an internal medicine resident at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and Dr. Karanjot Chhatwal, a resident doctor and researcher at Imperial College London. Having both experienced the challenges of navigating medicine without clear guidance, they recognized that the biggest barrier was not ability, but access to mentorship and opportunity. MedNex was built to change that. From the outset, the focus was to create opportunities, and to ensure that every individual had the mentorship needed to succeed within them. Today, the MedNex team is a global network of clinicians, researchers, and mentors committed to supporting the next generation. Together, they provide the structure, guidance, and community that allow members to grow with confidence and achieve their full potential.
